Today’s singer first known recording dates back to 1956, age 2. Her family was comprised of gospel singers and had her contribute vocals to their debut. She began performing live at age 11 and was signed to her very first contract by age 12 and released her solo debut while still in high school (age 14). By age 18 she had a Billboard Hot 100 hit (#6) which stayed on the chart for 14 weeks and sold over 1x million copies (certified GOLD). She also became the first black female artists to score a gold album on her own record label. Over the years she has worked with greats including: Marlon Jackson, Lil Wayne, Alice Cooper, Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez, Snoop Dogg and Tom Jones.
