𝐑𝐎𝐘 𝐂 (𝐑𝐨𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝)⁣⁣

On September 16th the world experienced another loss of a legendary Soul singer, Roy C. Hammond, age 81. ⁣⁣

Hammond was a member of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 during the 1950’s and achieved success with their own song, “𝘞𝘩𝘰’𝘴 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯’.” However after three years the trio broke up and Hammond began his solo career. His song “𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘨𝘶𝘯 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨,” an international Top 20, would ultimately become his biggest hit and be re-released by multiple record labels for decades afterwards.⁣⁣

In the early ’70’s Hammond wrote and produced “𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵”, a protest song of then-President Richard Nixon, for funk band 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘋𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴. This song would ultimately become a backbone for the burgeoning rap/hip-hop movement and was sampled by numerous artists including: ⁣⁣
