Tribute: Mary Wilson
#114
Mary Wilson, co-founder of The Supremes (formerly The Primates), passed away today, age 76. Just 3x days ago Wilson excitedly posted on Youtube about Black History Month, The Supreme’s 60th Anniversary and Universal Music Group releasing Mary Wilson material from the late 70’s as well as new songs in early March 2021.
As a member of The Supremes and Diana Ross & The Supremes, Wilson was a part of 12x #1 hits. These massive hits include: “Baby Love”, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, “Come See About Me”, “Where Did Our Love Go”, “Someday We’ll Be Together”, “Love Child”, “You Keep Me Hanging On”, “Stop! In The Name Of Love”, “Back In My Arms Again”, “Love Is Here And You’re Gone”, “The Happening” and “I Hear A Symphony”.
The Supremes became Motown Records first big, bankable artist which would allow their company to prosper for much of the 1960s.
After leaving The Supremes in 1977 Wilson began a solo career and made guest appearances on other artist recordings.
Mary Wilson played a key roll in helping expand the world of popular music as we know it today. Now she’s a part of a much larger choir of soul angels.
