Released in August of 1972 on Glade/TK Records, this soulful single’s question still stands to this very day. Thomas’s vocals and lyrical content reminds me of Marvin Gaye’s classic, What’s Going On.

The record topped the U.S. Billboard R&B chart, made the top three on the Billboard Hot 100, and top 20 in other countries including the United Kingdom[1] where it peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Chart.[2] This disc sold over two million copies. [1]

With a bigger production surrounding his vocals would it have been an even bigger commercial success?
