How many singers are able to win awards, or be nominated, in music, film and stage? Well, today’s artist is one of the few who’s achieved all three. She also was blacklisted by the White House as a communist, inducted in to the Civil Rights Hall of Fame, worked with Sammy Davis Jr., Harry Belafonte, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Quincy Jones and met with John F. Kennedy 2x days before his assassination. She also worked at the Cotton Club in the late ’20s, was the first African American to be nominated for a Tony Award and the first African American to be elected to serve of the Screen Actors Guild board of Directors. It’s easy to say that she made quite a mark during her time alive!
So, now that I’ve listed a number of details about this singer… take a moment, then answer. If you don’t know, tomorrow you’ll know.
