Sunday - 12/20/20 (#091)
Today’s featured singer first came across my path during the early 2000s. However, he began making his mark 40 years prior. A pioneer of his genre and a true musical messenger delivering songs of positivity, love and belief in greater things to come.
He’s cited James Brown, Ray Charles and Wilson Pickett as important influences and when listening to him sing you can almost hear them in his voice.
He’s been a barber, a boxer and musician. He’s been in prison, in film and on stage performing at billionaire’s birthday parties.
As a multi-instrumentalist he’s been able to record full tracks and add multiple range backing vocals BUT was part of one of the most influential harmony groups ever.
His works have been covered by Robert Palmer, Willie Nelson, The Clash, Gov’t Mule and many others.
In my personal opinion…he’s the true Soul of Reggae.
