A few days ago I heard this song for the first time and immediately loved its positive, feel good story and bright horn section.

The B-Side (The Horse) actually became more famous than it’s A-Side. This was due in part because it’s an instrumental and was used by radio stations, as well as a music promo. video series “The Now Explosion”, the OG of MTV.

Written and produced by Jesse James in 1968 for Phil-L.A. of Soul. It sold over 1 million units in the first three months of its release. The single peaked at No. 2 on both the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (in June 1968) and the US Billboard R&B charts.
