Today’s featured singer first came across my path while watching a feature film, The Blues Brothers. It was there I also saw other legends… James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Bo Diddley. However, this Philadelphia born singer didn’t appear in person, it was a song of his that really stood out. But before all of this happened our NTS Challenge singer’s career had already taken off. He’s been said to be the founding father of Soul and the “the greatest male soul singer of all time” by a legendary record executive.
His fingerprints are all over music and his recordings have been included in numerous compilation albums and covered by bands in the following styles: R&B, Soul, Funk, Rock, Pop, Folk, World, Electronic, Stage & Screen, Hip Hop, Reggae, Latin, Classical and even Brass & Military music albums. A deeply spiritual man, if I were to list his nickname I’d be giving it all away BUT it suits him every way.
